Ram directorial Peranbu, featuring Mammootty in the lead role, had its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam on 27 January 2018. The film was critically acclaimed and its Asian premiere happened recently at the 21st edition of the prestigious Shanghai International Film Festival. According to reports about its premiere, it received a positive response. At the screening was Peranbu’s director Ram who was overwhelmed by the audiences’ reaction for his film. He posted a couple of pics which clearly shows how the audiences reacted to Peranbu.

Written and directed by Ram and bankrolled by PL Thenappan under the banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films, Peranbu stars Mammootty in the lead role. The film has Anjali playing the female lead with Samuthirakani essaying a pivotal character. The others in the supporting roles are Vadivukkarasi, Sadhana, Livingston, Suraj Venjaramood, Siddique and Aruldoss. Anjali Ameer, a transgender model, was roped in to play an important role in the film and this will be her debut in the movie industry. According to sources close to the team, she was signed up on Mammootty’s insistence as he wanted to give an opportunity for someone from the community.
The technical crew of this film includes Yuvan Shankar Raja for music, Vairamuthu for lyrics, Theni Eswar for cinematography and Suriya Pradhaman for editing. Peranbu will be released in Tamil and Malayalam. With the film receiving positive response in both its world and Asian premiere, its makers are planning for its theatrical release in India very soon.
It may be mentioned here that Mammootty’s last release was Abrahaminte Santhathikal which hit the marquee on June 16th to positive reviews. His next film release would be Peranbu, according sources.
