An army person from Karnataka's Belagavi, killed himself on Tuesday evening by shooting with his service rifle. The 33-year-old soldier was posted on duty along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

The New Indian Express reports that Lance Naik Vishal Pandurang Lohar of 54 Rshtriya Rifles was posted in Laam sector of Rajouri district and hailed from Khanapur in Belagavi.

While the Rajouri police have registered a case and are investigating the matter, the report says that the reason for Vishal taking the extreme step remains unknown. Army officials from Belagavi told the newspaper that the army has ordered a court of inquiry into the matter.

Vishal had spoken over phone to his wife just a day before he killed himself. Speaking to TNIE, Vishal's relatives said that he had spoken to his wife as usual and that she did not suspect anything wrong.

While the report states that Rajouri police have confirmed the death of the soldier, his family is yet to receive official word on the same. Vishal's brother Dilip Pandurang Lohar is also posted in the same regiment, but was reportedly unaware about what was troubling Vishal.

According to reports, he is survived by his wife and a four-year-old daughter.
