The Oscar-winning music director AR Rahman is all set to turn producer with the film 99 Songs. Touted to be a breezy romantic musical entertainer, the film’s shooting commenced in India after the team just completed a schedule in Ukraine.

Ehan and Edilsy, the lead pair in 99 Songs, will be making their debut with this film. According to sources, all the actors in the star cast, including the lead pair, have been trained at AR Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory for over a year, as playing the role in 99 Songs requires musical expertise. Also, the lead actors have undergone special training at a leading acting school in Hollywood.

On picking up the lead pair, Rahman wrote on his Facebook page, “For the past couple of years, we have taken the time necessary to hold around 1,000 auditions so that we could find the right boy and girl. I think we have found those special people who have brought freshness and talent to the screen.”

Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy, who has wielded the megaphone for the television series Dewarists, will be donning the director’s robes for this flick. The film is produced by AR Rahman’s YM Productions in association with Ideal Entertainments. AR Rahman had penned the story for this film while the screenplay is by the director. Predictably, music for the film would be composed by AR Rahman and there would be around 10 – 12 tracks in the album. This is a bilingual that will be released in Tamil and Hindi simultaneously.

It may be recalled that the first look poster of 99 Songs was released earlier this year in March which featured the lead pair holding onto a piano that seemed to be hanging from the sky.
