The filming is set to take place in Mumbai.

It has been confirmed that superstar Rajinikanth, last seen playing a college warden with a violent streak in Karthik Subbaraj’s Petta, will next team up with AR Murugadoss for a rumoured political project next.

The latest update is that the principal shooting of the yet-untitled film, dubbed as Thalaivar 166, will start rolling from April 10 in Mumbai. This will be the second Rajinikanth starrer to be predominantly shot in Mumbai after Kaala, which revolved around a slum lord and was set in and around Dharavi.

The official announcement regarding the project is expected to be made very soon, according to reliable sources.

There were rumours that Keerthy Suresh is being considered as the leading lady for the project. Keerthy had worked with Murugadoss in Sarkar, in which she was seen alongside Vijay. The latest buzz is that Nayanthara will be playing Rajinikanth’s pair, while an official confirmation is awaited on the same.

The makers are currently finalising rest of the cast and crew. Recently, popular lensman Santosh Sivan revealed on his Twitter page that he has signed Rajinikanth’s film. Currently dubbed as Thalaivar 166, the film will mark Sivan’s reunion with Rajinikanth after Mani Ratnam’s Thalapathi.

To be bankrolled by Lyca Productions, the superstar is said to have allocated 90 days for the project.

Anirudh Ravichander has been signed to compose music. This will be his second successive film with Rajinikanth after Petta. In his latest interview to Times of India, Anirudh confirmed signing Rajinikanth’s next film with Murugadoss.

Talking about his upcoming Tamil projects, he said: “As of now, Indian 2 and Murugadoss sir’s film (with Rajinikanth). These two are my Tamil projects, and I have one in Telugu (Jersey, starring Nani).”
