The News Minute| November 11, 2014| 04.20 pm ISTPending an official decision on the fate of the five Indian fishermen sentenced to death in Srti Lanka for alleged drug trafficking, an appeal has been filed in the Colombo High Court on their behalf.Initially supposed to be filed on Monday, it was approved only after the Indian high Commission had a look at it, reported The Hindu.  The Court will give a hearing date for the case once a brief is given to the Court of Appeal. Sri Lankan President Mahinde Rajapaksa spoke to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussing the issue surrounding the fishermen sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court on October 30. Even though Lankan Presidential spokesperson Mohan Samaranayake said that they had discussed the chances of transferring the fishermen to India, no official word has been received from the foreign office on any concrete decision, reported The New Indian Express.
