Visakhapatnam district sports authorities found themselves in a tizzy after a flex put out for celebration of National Sports Day showed tennis player Sania Mirza erroneously mentioned as ace athlete P T Usha.
The flex was erected near the Submarine Museum on Beach Road, where the celebrations marking National Sports Day were taking place.
Soon, the erroneous poster went viral on social media causing a major embarrassment to the officials.
The organisers who were tasked with arrangements of sports day celebrations seem to have mistaken P T Usha for tennis star Sania Mirza and erected a flex with a photograph of the latter bearing the name of the legendary athlete.
Social media was soon abuzz pointing at the lack of basic knowledge about who our sports personalities are.
Several flexes with the photographs of Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and state Minister for Tourism, Culture and Youth Muttamsetti Srinivas Rao, were put out across the stretch. The posters which also depicted several other sportspersons were aimed at promoting the government’s "YSR Kreeda Protasahakalu".
The flex that caught the eye of many and drew flak has the photograph of Sania Mirza under the category of 'Tennis' but the name was printed as P T Usha, 'Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri and Arjuna Award’.
However, the flex that became a laughing stock for the authorities, was removed later.
CM Jagan Mohan Reddy had announced cash awards for sportspersons who won medals at the national level in the name of 'YSR Kreeda Protasahakalu' and it was also decided to organise functions on the occasion of National Sports Day.
