The Bala directorial Naachiyaar starring Jyothika in the lead role earned rave reviews from critics, especially for the portrayal of the heroine. This has prompted the filmmakers to go ahead with the Telugu remake of the movie.

The Telugu dubbing rights were bought by Kalpana Koneru for a whooping Rs 90 lakh. And although the makers wanted to release the Telugu version immediately, director Bala suggested a remake.

According to latest reports, talks are on to rope in Baahubali star Anushka Shetty to reprise Jo’s role in the Telugu version.

However, with the actor busy with a slew of films needing her attention, it seems doubtful if she would agree to star in the remake. According to sources, the filmmakers either intend to rope in Anushka to play the role in the remake or go ahead with dubbing the film in Telugu. Sources in the know say that Bala is keen on the remake but it needs to be seen if things work out favourably for him.

One of the finest actors in the film industry, Anushka is known for her heroine centric roles, such as the ones she played in Arundathie, Bhagmathie and Rudramadevi. She began her career with the Telugu movie Super, which released in 2005 but it was Arundathie that shot her to instant fame four years later.

Naachiyaar, written and directed by Bala, had Jyothika as Naachiyaar IPS, GV Prakash Kumar as Kaathavarayan, Ivana as Kottaiarasi and producer Rockline Venkatesh as Feroz Khan. The film was bankrolled by Bala’s home production B Studios. Released on February 16, Naachiyaar had music composed by maestro Ilayaraja, cinematography by Easwar and editing by Sathish Suriya.

It may be mentioned here that soon after the teaser of the film came out, a legal case was filed by an individual seeking the deletion of the vulgar language used by Jo. However, the case was dismissed later.
