Antony Varghese, who played Pepe of Angamaly Diaries, will act in Aanaparambile World Cup. The film, directed by Nikhil Premraj, has gone on floors.

Nikhil has also scripted the film. On the film, the director has said that it will be all about football, love and fantasy in the right mixture. Apparently, Antony Varghese will be playing a football coach to a group of kids. In an interview to The New Indian Express, he said, “In terms of mood, we’re aiming for a Dangal or a Chak De. The story will have a blend of football and fantasy elements in addition to a romance track.”

The director also pointed out that the film will be told from the viewpoint of a child, a hardcore Lionel Messi fan. This child gets in touch with the character played by Antony, a Santosh Trophy winner selected in the Kerala Blasters team, and what happens next forms the crux of the film. Manoj K Jayan, Saiju Kurup, Balu Varghese, and IM Vijayan form a part of the cast. The film has cinematography by Faiz Siddik and music by Jakes Bejoy with Noufal Abdullah roped in to take care of the editing. The film is bankrolled by Faizal Latheef and Stanley CS under their banner. It is expected to hit the marquee later this year or early next. Antony Varghese has so far acted in three films and Aanaparambile World Cup will be his fourth film in the Malayalam film industry. His last release was Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil.

His third film, Jallikattu, which has not yet released in Kerala, was recently premiered at the 44th Toronto International Film Festival. It is based on the short story Maoist penned by S Hareesh. The film is directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery with Antony Varghese playing the lead role. According to reports, the film will hit the marquee in October.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Antony Varghese may be signed up to play the baddie in Thalapathy Vijay's next directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. However, there is no official confirmation on this yet.  If Antony Varghese manages to get onboard the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial then it would mark his debut in the Tamil film industry.
