A student of Amity University died after he was shot at a point-blank range in his flat at an upscale residential colony in Noida on Saturday afternoon.

Ramaraju Sandesh, the 21-year-old from Andhra Pradesh, was a second-year student of BSc (Marine Sciences) and stayed on the 13th floor of Lotus Boulevard with two friends, Times of India reported.

The incident is said to have occurred around 3:30 pm when Sandesh's flatmate, Nadeem heard someone ring the doorbell followed by two gun shots as soon as Sandesh opened the door.

Sandesh's other flatmate, Madhur, had reportedly gone to buy some groceries when the incident happened.

The TOI report quotes Nadeem telling the police, "I heard him screaming, 'Aman don't kill me," adding that he rushed towards Sandesh and saw a duo fleeing the spot.

Sandesh was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. A police team reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem.

A case has been registered against 'Aman' and another unidentified assailant, following which the police later detained two people for questioning.

The incident has left the entire colony of the posh gated society in shock. Amity University is also looking into the case and extending cooperation to the police.
