In yet another appalling incident, a nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 50-year-old man in Guntur’s Gurazala sub-division in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.

The girl, who studies in Class 3, reportedly complained of pain and bleeding in the stomach. Her mother then took her to the local hospital, and she was reportedly so badly injured that she required stitches.

The girl was then shifted to the Guntur Government Hospital.

The girl was sexually assaulted allegedly by 50-year-old Mannem Subbaiah, a rickshaw puller, also a neighbour.

The police have registered a case based on the complaint filed by the girl’s mother. The accused has not yet been arrested.

Speaking to TNM, Guntur Rural Superintendent of Police Ch Venkata Appala Naidu said, “The accused fled the scene after committing the crime. The search is on for him, and the search operation is going on at its best.”

Enraged locals staged protests on the Narkatpalli-Addanki highway from 10.30 pm to 1.30 am on Wednesday night, where they blocked traffic, burnt tires and raised slogans, demanding the arrest of the accused. They set a deadline of 3 pm on Thursday for the arrest of the accused and called for a town bandh.

This is the third horrific rape that the state has witnessed in the last ten days.

The Kurnool police on Saturday arrested a 40-year-old shop-owner in Andhra Pradesh after he allegedly raped an 11-year-old mentally ill girl in Revanur mandal on April 23.

On April 24, a 16-year-old juvenile allegedly raped a woman in Guntur district.

According to the police, the boy was a neighbour who was working as a labourer nearby and trespassed into the woman's house and allegedly raped her. She was reportedly staying alone, while her child was staying with her husband.
