Andhra Pradesh Police on Thursday announced a reward of Rs.50,000 for anyone giving information leading to the arrest of a suspected psychopath involved in injection attacks on women in the state's West Godavari district.

District Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Bhushan told reports in Eluru that only one person is involved in the attacks.

Police have formed 40 teams to arrest the attacker. A sketch of the accused will also be prepared based on the information given by the victims.

Bhushan said nine such cases were reported from various villages so far. "One or two needles were also recovered. They were sent for medical and forensic examination. No poison, drugs or bacteria virus were found. There is no need for women to panic," he said.

The police chief said the teams constituted to track down the accused include both static and mobile teams. Fifteen check posts have also been set up for checking the vehicles.

Bhushan said they were trying to detect the case at the earliest.

Police stepped up efforts to ban him after six women came under attack in different villages on Tuesday.
