Meanwhile, Edavela Babu’s letter had also taken offence with Ganesh asking him to apologise for calling the association a ‘club’ during a press conference on Sunday. Ganesh had told the media on Monday that A.M.M.A was not a club, but a registered charitable organisation that was meant to work for the welfare of its members and struggling old artistes among other social work. Wondering what prompted his colleague to make this remark, he had also added that as long as A.M.M.A. had not changed its original purpose, Babu should withdraw his statement and apologise to its members as well as the public. In response, Babu asserted that ‘club’ was not a derogatory term, going on to add the Wikipedia definition of the word, that it is “an association of people united by a common interest or a goal.” In the letter, Babu pointed out that A.M.M.A. was registered under the Charitable Societies Act, just like many other clubs in the state such as the Lions Club and the Rotary Club. “A club is not just a platform to play cards and have drinks at. I am unable to understand what you (Ganesh) mean by saying that A.M.M.A. should not go down to the level of a club,” he added.
