Actor Silambarasan or Simbu as he's known has decided to free himself from Twitter and social media trolling on the eve of Independence Day.

Simbu posted a tweet message that said, "In spite of negativism, positivity was my forte but today's social media !!! Negativity is too dominating, and I'm scared to be a part."

The actor added that he'd considered social media to be necessary as a celebrity, but that he now prefers to follow his heart. He had some more wise words for his followers, "So before I depart, just wanna say. Always choose love :)"

Simbu subsequently deleted his Twitter page.

In recent times, Twitter has often turned into a platform for cyber bullying.

Actor Vishal had said during the jallikattu protests that the Nadigar Sangam would request actors to step out of social media as they were becoming soft targets. Notably, Trisha and Vishal had faced heavy flak on Twitter at the time.

In March, the Suchi Leaks controversy broke out and celebrities were once again at the receiving end with followers harassing them about alleged nude videos, photographs and accusations that were tweeted out from singer Suchi's Twitter handle.

Singer Chinmayi, who faced a lot of harassment at the time, has spoken about cyber bullying time and again. She had previously been targeted for a tweet that said she liked a Vijay film.

Simbu is going through a tough time in his career, with AAA turning out to be a box-office dud. The actor had recently tweeted that he will be embarking on a new project with his father, T Rajendar and Yuvan Shankar Raja.

He was also in the news after reports said that he was interested in marrying Oviya, the popular Bigg Boss contestant. Simbu later rubbished the reports.
