It was announced a few days ago that director Vinayan is planning a sequel to the hit horror comedy Akasha Ganga, which was released in 1999. The latest update about this flick is that the shooting will commence in Palakkad today, April 24.

In an interview to Silverscreen, director Vinayan said, “We had originally planned to start shooting on the 16th but postponed it, keeping the elections in mind.”

It has already been well publicised that veteran actor Ramya Krishnan will be playing the central character in Akasha Ganga 2. On roping her in, the director pointed out, “Her character’s name is Dr Soumini Devi. She is someone who worships negative energy. Her character also has an interesting connection with the original story. She will join the shoot by May 10, and we plan to wrap up her work in 10 days.” Apparently, she plays a US-returned doctorate holder who practises black magic.

Siddique, Vishnu Govind, Sreenath Bhasi, Dharmajan Bolgatty and Salim Kumar have been roped in to play supporting roles in the film. The technical crew comprises Prakash Kutty for cinematography while music will be composed by Bijibal. Plans are on to release Akasha Ganga 2 for Onam this year. It may be noted that the prequel had Divya Unni, Mayoori, Madhupal and Mukesh in the lead roles.

The director, soon after he is done with Akasha Ganga 2, will begin directing the Mohanlal starrer that he had announced recently on Facebook. Vinayan had met Mohanlal recently and the director revealed that the discussion with the star had a positive outcome and that their film together will begin soon after Mohanlal completes his current assignments. What creates a lot of expectations for Vinayan – Mohanlal project is that it will be the first time the two will be collaborating.
