The News Minute| October 17, 2014| 10.50 am IST The Supreme Court has granted interim bail for former AIADMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa whose bail plea came up for hearing on Friday morning.  An occasion celebrated every year with the garlanding of the party founder MG Ramachandran' statue, party flag hoisting and distribution of sweets by Jayalalithaa herself , this year however, the 43rd anniversary of the ruling AIADMK party has coincided with a Supreme Court hearing.  Party workers who assembled this Friday morning at the party headquarters in Royapettah raised slogans in support of their leader ahead of the bail plea hearing.  As party leaders paid their respects to MGR, and expressed deep sorrow for the absence of the party leader on its 43rd anniversary, supporters and party cadres demanded the leader’s release. This year, party presidium chairman E Madhusoodanan hoisted the flag and distributing souvenirs. While other party leaders across the state have been asked to mark the occasion with the same, no sweets are to be distributed this year as a mark of respect for their jailed leader. Senior advocate, Fali Nariman will be the counsel on Jayalalithaa’s behalf as she moves the court for bail and also to move her from the Bangalore Parappana Agrahara jail to a Chennai prison.
