With DMK’s heir apparent and possible CM candidate MK Stalin hitting the road for a mass-contact program and well-planned, stylish online social media campaign, the AIADMK it seems has woken up to the realities of the digital era. On Thursday, the party put out two short videos hailing the achievements and character of their beloved Amma, TN CM Jayalalithaa.

Here are the two videos released by the AIADMK IT Wing.

The first video, which seems to be using the background score from Ajith starrer Mankatha, says “Amma is strong”, “Amma is brave”, “Amma is noble”, “Amma is righteous” and “Amma is back”. It has been shared 128 times in a span of 15 hours.

The second one, embedded below, is an even shorter video which talks about “Mission 234” alluding to Assembly polls in 2016 and ends with the slogan ‘Olirum Nikazhkalam, Milirum Varungkalam’ meaning ‘glowing present, glittering future’. The background in the video, as one would expect, is all glitter.

The videos were released with Jayalalithaa’s blessings on Vijayadashami. "The videos will target the entire voting population in Tamil Nadu. This is just a curtain raiser and the online campaign will continue till end of elections," a member of AIADMK IT wing told The News Minute.

The person added that the campaign had nothing to do with Stalin's online onslaught. "Stalin's team has converted an offline event into an online campaign. Ours will be an exclusive online campaign about the party and government," he said.

The videos however are a far cry from what Stalin’s team has put out so far. Stalin’s FB page has close to 1.5 million likes already, and his videos are innovative in content and production, and extremely well-made. To what extent this will help electoral politics is anybody’s guess, but as far as the social media game is concerned, the AIADMK has a long way to go.
