Tempers are rising against the Central government in Tamil Nadu after media reports suggested that the Central government had ‘converted’ Pongal into a ‘Restricted Holiday’ from being a compulsory holiday. Several leaders in Tamil Nadu have condemned the Central government for this, although an employee clarified to TNIE that Pongal was always a restricted holiday and was made compulsory last year only for administrative reasons. Meanwhile, the anger is pouring out in social media.
Hari Prabhakaran, an IT Wing Joint Secretary of the AIADMK tweeted calling for Tamil Nadu to be a separate state, and later deleted the tweet.
Following this, several users online hit out at the AIADMK worker for his secessionist calls. SG Suryah, a BJP youth wing leader, also warned that he will be filing a police case against him.

Hari however said he is happy to be behind bars for ‘Tamil feelings’.
