Even as nominations for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections have been filed, all political parties are busy with convincing their rebel candidates to withdraw their nominations.

According to a report in the Times of India, for the 150 wards in the GHMC area, 888 nominations were filed claiming TRS candidature, while 698 nominations came from Congress, 688 from TDP, 456 from BJP and 89 from the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM). The aspirants filed their nomination papers expecting that their party would consider their candidature in the last minute.

With so many members filing their nominations, local party leaders have been ordered to talk to rebel candidates into withdrawing their nominations.

While the TRS needs to convince almost 700 such rebels to withdraw their nominations, the BJP and TDP have another problem.

"TDP aspirants filed nominations in about 35 wards which were allotted to BJP. Similarly BJP candidates submitted their nominations in 95 wards against 63 seats given to us,“ BJP spokesperson N Krishna Sagar Rao told TOI.

The Congress, is yet to officially announce its candidates in many wards.
