An official in Tamil Nadu has found novel ways of getting people to vote. After paragliding, he has now taken a boat ride to urge people to cast their ballot in the upcoming polls.

Nagapattinam District Collector S Palanisami, who had taken to paragliding to create awareness on the need for 100 per cent voting last week, on Sunday undertook a boat journey in the sea to spread the message of exercising the franchise.

Speaking to PTI, after sailing from Nagapattinam port to Pattinachery area in Nagore in a mechanised boat, the collector said the boat journey had been undertaken to stress the importance of voting among the coastal people.

"We have identified the polling booths that have recorded low polling in the past general elections and have taken several awareness measures to achieve 100 per cent polling," the collector said, adding, the boat journey was aimed at creating voting awareness among the fishermen.

Nagapattinam Superintendent of Police D Kannan, Lt Commander, K R Khilare, Nagapattinam Port Officer Manekshaw and other officials accompanied the collector.

On Thursday, Palanisami went on a paragliding sortie at the beach in Nagapattinam as part of efforts to increase awareness among voters on the importance of exercising their franchise without fail.
