An auto-rickshaw driver was arrested by the Hayathnagar police in Rangareddy district for allegedly sexually assaulting his 13-year-old daughter. On the run since Tuesday, Meesala Madhusudhan was arrested on Saturday.

Police said that the crime took place on July 27 when the survivor’s mother was away but was reported on August 1. They also said that the accused had allegedly assaulted the victim multiple times.

“When his wife went to work, the accused took the opportunity and assaulted the survivor, the elder daughter,” said the police.

His wife came to know about the appalling incident, after she returned home and found her daughter crying in pain. She then lodged the complaint with police, said Hayathnagar police to The New Indian Express.

Madhusudhan’s wife was reportedly under pressure from relatives to not report the crime to the police, claiming that the family’s name would be ruined. Defying her relatives, the survivor’s mother, however, gathered the courage to report the crime to the police.

J Narender Goud, Inspector said that the accused had confessed to the crime and a case was booked under Sec 376 of IPC (rape) and Sections 5 r/w 6 of POCSO Act (aggravated sexual assault).
