An advocate who was being interrogated by police in the case of Deputy Superintendent of Police R Vishnupriya’s death, attempted suicide by consuming poison in Madurai on Monday.

M Malaviya, the advocate was found in an unconscious state at Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Terminus and was taken to Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH). Police sources claim that he had consumed poison and was found at the bus stop and was immediately taken to hospital in an ambulance.  His condition is stable.

Police department officials said that M Malaviya was having an affair with a police officer and the relationship broke up, which led him to attempt suicide, as reported in TNIE. They also said that he refused to tell the police the reason for his suicide attempt.

In the past, M Malaviya had said that he was being forced by the CB-CID officials to accept that he was the lover of DSP Vishnupriya.

DSP Vishnupriya was the investigating officer in the murder of a Dalit youth Gokulraj. The suicide of Vishnupriya became a huge controversy as she had written about facing pressure from her seniors at her workplace in this particular case.
