The producers of Varma, the Tamil remake of the cult hit Telugu movie Arjun Reddy, scrapped the film after it was fully complete, stating that the end product was not satisfactory. The film, which was directed by Bala, had Vikram’s son Dhruv in the lead role.

Then the producers announced that the entire film will be re-shot under a new title, Adithya Varma, with debutant Gireesaaya helming it as the director. Gireesaaya had worked as an assistant to director Sandeep Vanga, who had directed Arjun Reddy. The producer had retained Dhruv Vikram and music composer Radhan for the new version of the remake while the rest of the star cast and crew were changed.

Recently, there were rumours that Adithya Varma had been dropped as well. Dismissing this, the film’s producer Mukesh Mehta of E4 Entertainment posted on Twitter that they were nothing but rumours. The producer also pointed out that the shooting of Adithya Varma is progressing at a good speed and the team left for Portugal on April 9 for a song shoot.

Mukesh Ratilal Mehta tweeted, “So sorry to disappoint whoever is posting these false stories. Shooting in full swing and the crew leaves to Portugal for a song on April 9.”

While Bala’s version had Megha Chowdhury and Raiza Wilson as the female leads, the new version will have Banita Sandhu and Priya Anand in their place. Ravi K Chandran is cranking the camera for this venture.

The Telugu film Arjun Reddy had Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey as the lead pair. Following the film’s massive success, its remake rights for different languages have been lapped up like hot cakes.

While the Hindi version of Arjun Reddy, titled Kabir, is scheduled for release on June 21, it looks like Adithya Varma will also release around the same time. The Hindi version has Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani as the lead pair.
