The walk was aimed at creating awareness against domestic abuse faced by women. The proceeds from the walk will reportedly go to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault through her Save Shakti foundation.
Following her tweet that blew the lid off sexual harassment in the film industry, the actor has been steadfast in her intention to support women's empowerment.
She launched a campaign in 2017 called 'Save Shakti', expressing her angst against sexual harassment faced by women from all walks of life.
The campaign, attended by several celebrities like actors Vishal, Prasanna, Sneha, Sarathkumar, Dhanshika, among others, aimed to gather signatures in support of creating Mahila courts in every taluk of Tamil Nadu.
This move, Varalaxmi claimed, will increase conviction rates and encourage more women to speak up against sexual harassment and abuse.
In the wake of #MeToo movements, women from across the globe have come forward to share their experiences of sexual assaults and abuse. This indeed has helped the long-suppressed topic of sexual harassment take the spotlight.
