Actor Sonam Kapoor to marry businessman Anand Ahuja on May 8

Speculations around Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor’s wedding have been doing the rounds for a while now. On Tuesday, however, Sonam as well as her boyfriend Anand Ahuja’s families laid the rumours to rest by confirming that the duo was going to wed on May 8.

A joint statement issued by the families said: “The Kapoor and Ahuja families take great joy and pride, in announcing the marriage of Sonam and Anand. The wedding will take place on the 8th of May in Mumbai. Since it is an intimate affair, we request you to respect the family’s need for privacy. Thank you for all your blessings and love as we celebrate this special moment in our lives.”

Sonam’s fiancé, Anand Ahuja, is a Delhi based businessman. He is the founder and CEO of the apparel brand Bhane, and also owns the multi-brand sneaker boutique VegNonVeg.

It appears that the duo have been together for at least two years. While Sonam prefers to not speak about her personal life in interviews and publicly, the duo do put up many pictures of them together on their social media.

Rumours of their wedding had once again started doing the rounds after photos of Anil Kapoor’s decked up residence earlier this week.

Sonam, who will be starring with Dulquer Salmaan in The Zoya Factor, had said in earlier interviews that it is the idea of a ‘marriage’ that appeals to her more than the ‘wedding’.

She told The National in April, “I think there is too much money spent; it’s all very crass, and I would rather give that money away. I’d rather have a wedding at home than anywhere else.” She added that while the rituals were important, she found spending all the money on that “disgusting” and “wasteful”.  

However, Sonam and Anand’s sangeet will reportedly be held at a five star hotel which is owned by Samyukta Nair’s family, who is a close friend of Sonam’s. Choreographer Farah Khan has apparently been roped in for the sangeet too – something she confirmed on a dance reality show in April.

Sonam, whose upcoming film Veere Di Wedding co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Swara Bhaskar will hit the screens in June 2018, has also previously acted with Dhanush in Ranjhanaa. Her last film to release was PadMan.
