After making a splash in Malayalam and Telugu industries with films such as Premam, Kali and Fidaa, Sai Pallavi successfully made inroads into Tamil filmdom via director Vijay’s psychological thriller Diya, which released recently and received a lukewarm response.

She played a mother of an unborn child in the film, which was also released in Telugu as Kanam. Her second Tamil outing is Dhanush’s Maari 2, in which she collaborates with the star for the first time. Sai Pallavi turned a year older on Wednesday and on Tuesday night she was thrown a surprise birthday bash on the sets of Maari 2.

Pictures from the party have surfaced online and going by them it can be safely assumed that Pallavi had a whale of a time.

Maari 2 was supposed to materialize much earlier but due to Dhanush’s multiple commitments, including his directorial project Power Paandi, the project had to be pushed. In the film, Dhanush played a dhoti-clad, mustache-twirling local rowdy and he will return in the same getup for the sequel, which will be bankrolled by Wunderbar Films.

Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas, who has worked in films such as Oru Mexican Aparatha and Godha and recently in Dhanush’s maiden Malayalam production Tharanga, has been roped in to play the baddie in Maari 2. The film will be made as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu.

Apart from Maari 2, Pallavi also has Suriya – Selvaraghavan film NGK in her kitty currently. She’s also in talks for Mysskin’s next directorial with Shanthanu Bhagyaraj. In Telugu, Pallavi will be next seen in Sharwanand’s Padi Padi Leche Manasu.
