Actor Lal has posted a picture on his social media page raising speculations that he is a part of Mani Ratnam's upcoming magnum opus. The Malayalam actor had posted picture with the veteran director and wrote, “This black and white photo is hiding wonderful colors that will soon paint an old dream to life. Wait and watch #masterstroke #heightsoverheight."

This has given rise to speculations that Lal will be playing an important role in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan, which is based on the classic novel of the same name. Ponniyin Selvan traces the life of the most popular among the Chozha kings, Raja Raja Chozhan 1. It is in fact about his early life when he was known as Arul Mozhi Varman.

The director has roped in a bevy of stars including Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Keerthy Suresh and others to play the main characters in the film. According to the latest reports, Trisha will be playing a pivotal role in this period flick. Elango Kumaravel will be co-writing the adaptation along with Mani Ratnam.  Music composer AR Rahman will score the music for this film. Despite criticism, Mani Ratnam has signed lyricist Vairamuthu to pen all the songs in this film.

It may be noted here that the actor has also been roped in for Dhanush's next helmed by Mari Selvaraj of Pariyerum Perumal fame.

Lal was recently seen in the Tollywood movie Saaho, which had Prabhas in the lead. Saaho, directed by Sujeeth, was bankrolled by V Vamshi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati under the banner UV Creations on a budget of Rs 300 crores.

The film’s star cast also included Neil Nitin Mukesh, Arun Vijay, Mandira Bedi, Jackie Shroff, Vennela Kishore, Mahesh Manjrekar and Chunkey Pandey in supporting roles. Shraddha Kapoor played the female lead in this flick. The technical crew of Saaho included R Madhi for cranking the camera and A Sreekar Prasad editing.
