The critically acclaimed Tamil film Jigarthanda is being remade in Telugu under the title Valmiki. The film has Varun Tej reprising the role done by Bobby Simha in Tamil. If sources are anything to go by, Atharvaa Murali will be foraying into the Telugu film industry with this remake and he will be seen in the role done by Siddharth in the original. Harish Shankar will be wielding the megaphone for this remake and Devi Sri Prasad has been roped in to compose the tunes. Valmiki will be bankrolled by Ram Achanta and Gopi Achanta under their banner. The prep work for this film has begun and the shooting is expected to commence in April this year.

It may be noted here that the original version in Tamil was written and directed by Karthik Subburaj and had Siddharth, Bobby Simha and Lakshmi Menon in the lead roles with Nassar, Ambika, Karunakaran and Sangili Murugan playing the supporting roles. The film fetched the National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor for Bobby Simha and Best Editing for Vivek Harshan.

The technical crew of Jigarthanda included Santosh Narayanan for music, Gavemic U Ary for cinematography and Vivek Harshan for editing. The film was bankrolled by Kathiresan under his banner SMS Pictures. Made on a budget of Rs 10 crore, it fetched around Rs 35 crore at the box office.

Meanwhile, Atharvaa’s next film release will be 100, which is an action entertainer. The film is written and directed by Sam Anton. Sharing the screen space with Atharvaa as his heroine is Hansika Motwani. The others in the star cast in supporting roles are Yogi Babu, Radharavi, Mime Gopi, Subbu Panchu Arunachalam, Bose Venkat, Rajkiran, Ramya Krishnan and Urvashi. This film is touted to hit the silver screens on April 10.
