The ABVP activist who has been named in the FIR in the suicide case of Rohith Vemula says he had received death threats.

N Susheel Kumar, who is a PhD scholar with the linguistics department at the University of Hyderabad, told The News Minute that he received death threats by post on Monday. He says he also received similar threats on April 22, after which they installed CCTV cameras around the house.

He has lodged a complaint with the police but an FIR had not been registered at the time of publishing this story.

Susheel said that the letters had been signed by a group that called itself “Telangana Radical Students Union (uoh)”. The letter was sent by one TS Gupta.

The letters said that the “everyone who are responsible for his death, need to answer”.

He said that he did not suspect anyone, but added: “The slogans raised by the JAC may have inspired someone.”

Asked whether this was a publicity stunt, he said: “No. I would have opposed the namaz-e-janaza for Yakub Memon even if I was not with the ABVP. Right now I am not bothered about anything except my studies. I have lost one academic year because of this.”
