The News Minute | February 2, 2015 | 4:40 pm IST If you thought liplock scenes in Indian movies is a trend that has emerged recently, you may need to think again.  82 years ago, a 1933 Malayalam movie titled 'Marthanda Varma' starring A V P Menon and Padmini had the first kissing scene in Indian cinema. Marthanda Varma is a black and white silent film directed by P.V. Rao based on the 1891 Malayalam novel by C. V. Raman Pillai. This was the first film based on a Malayalam literature and the second film of the Malayalam film industry after Vigathakumaran. The movie which was uploaded on YouTube by Manorama,  recounts the adventures of the crown Prince, Marthandavarma on how he eliminates his arch rivals one by one, so as to ascend to the throne of Travancore. A print of film, which is the only silent film of south India fully available as of now is preserved by the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), in Pune. The kiss comes at the 74th minute in the movie. Tweet Follow @thenewsminute
