In yet another case of sexual violence against women, a 55-year-old widow was allegedly gangraped and murdered in a village in I Polavaram of East Godavari district on Monday night.

Three men are alleged to have committed the crime when the victim was alone in her house. The culprits could have been locals from the same area, police said.

Police have arrested one of the suspects while search is underway for the remaining accused. District Superintendent of Police and Clues team visited the village and crime scene to collect details about the incident. District SP,

Adnan Nayeem Asmi, after visiting the spot told media that the woman was raped before she killed.

He added, "We are suspecting the role of three men and will catch them shortly."

Reports suggests that the accused tried to destroy the evidence from the crime scene.

According to reports, the police were alerted by a neighbour of the woman, who found her lying dead in her house.

As per police, the victim was staying alone as her husband and son have died, while her daughter is living in Hyderabad.

This comes close on the heels of a series of rapes that have shook the country in the last week, raising serious concerns on women’s safety.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister M. Sucharita made a surprise visit to an all-women police station in Guntur district, after some women had complained to her that the police were not responding properly to their complaints.
