A 22-year-old woman was found murdered at a lodge near her house in Mylapore on Thursday night. Police suspect that she went to meet a man whom she befriended on Facebook.

The woman, E Nivedhita, was a BBA graduate and was living at Veera Perumal Koil Street in Mylapore. According to the initial investigations, police found that the girl had booked a room in Picnic Plaza claiming that the room was for her friends.  

The woman went missing from her house on Wednesday evening around 4:30pm. Her body was found in Room No. 210 in the lodge that night. A senior police officer told The New Indian Express that two men had checked into the room on Thursday morning. They left the room by Thursday evening.

On Thursday night, around 11pm, a room service staff found the door closed but not locked. Police said that when he did not get any response, he went inside the room and found the girl dead. He immediately informed the hotel authorities and they informed the police.

Investigation so far has revealed that Nivedhita started speaking to a man through Facebook six months ago, and later started speaking to him on phone. Moreover, police are looking at the CCTV footage and also found a two-wheeler which is said to be used by the two men.

A police officer told The Times of India that there were strangulation marks on her neck. Her body was sent for post-mortem to Government Royapettah Hospital.
