In a tragic incident, two girls—an 18-month-old baby and a 10-year-old succumbed to their injuries on Tuesday in Hyderabad’s Chilkalguda, after they both fell off the roof of their house. The 10-year-old girl had fallen while attempting to save the baby.

According to reports, the victims were neighbours and were playing on the roof of their apartment in Chilkalguda railway quarters in the evening at around 5.40 pm on Tuesday, according to Telangana Today

While playing, the 18-month old baby Shreya climbed on the fence and was about to fall off. Coming to her rescue, 10-year-old Pallavi tried to save her by holding on to her dress, but her effort went in vain as both of them fell off the third floor.

Telangana Today reported that Pallavi had taken Shreya to the terrace to play with her. Pallavi was a class VIII student. Parents of the victims are both employees of South Central Railway.

At the time of the incident, the parents of the children were in their respective flats.

After hearing the loud noise, everyone came out and found that both of them had fallen down.

Parents of both the girls immediately rushed them to Railway hospital in Lalaguda.

Doctors at the hospital said that Shreya’s condition was critical and suggested them to take her to a private hospital with better amenities.

On the way to the hospital, she died in the ambulance at around 8.15 pm. Meanwhile, Pallavi who was availing treatment at the Railway hospital succumbed at 9.15 pm.

Bindu, a resident, who witnessed the incident, told Deccan Chronicle, “I impulsively ran towards the place in an attempt to catch them, stop them from falling or do something, but it all happened so fast that none of us could have done anything.”

Police said that the families of the kids stay on the third floor of a four- storey building.

Chilkalguda police registered a case under section 174 of IPC and sent the bodies for autopsy. After the post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to the parents.
