It seems Telangana Rashtra Samiti MLA Arekapudi Gandhi’s son’s big fat wedding at Hyderabad on Friday will turn out to be a headache for thousands of commuters in the city.

The Cyberabad traffic police has issued a traffic advisory on Wednesday, asking commuters to take alternate roads on Friday.

The advisory asks commuters travelling to Miyapur to take Hitex Metal Charminar towards Kothaguda and Kondapur. Commuters travelling to Kukatpally were advised to take Cyber Towers flyover or towards Indu projects, Kukatpally. Commuters from Kondapur were requested to take the Kothaguda-Hitex road.

According to the police, nearly 10,000 people will attend the wedding slated to happen at Hitex at around 5 pm.

Police expect that the Hitex road would be blocked with traffic between 5 pm to 11 pm, as they expect several MLAs, MPs and celebrities to attend the gala event.

However, several took objections to this advisory by the traffic police for the convenience of an MLA’s son’s wedding.

Both Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu are expected to attend the wedding.

The DCP in a press note highlighted, “No diversions will be undertaken. It is only an advisory issued in public interest.”

Speaking to TNM, Cyberabad DCP, S M Vijaya Kumar said, “It is just an advisory cautioning the commuters for their own convenience. We are not diverting any traffic. Since it is an MLA’s son’s wedding several other MLAs and MPs are likely to attend it. We are estimating a crowd of 8,000- 10,000. The MLA had obtained prior permission for it. So, it is for the convenience of the commuters to take other roads and avoid being caught up in traffic.”

Owing to metro works around Hitech City, several commuters are already facing traffic hassles. Hundreds of techies who take the Cyber Towers road are forced to take a detour of 2 kms and travel till Biodiversity junction through the newly constructed Mindspace Raheja underpass just to take a U-turn.

Though the MLA had won from the TDP ticket, he later defected to TRS.
