For 102-year-old Gowthamamma, age clearly is no bar. Accompanied by her 42-year-old grandson, the woman hailing from the Chamrajanagar district of Karnataka recently filed her nominations for the gram panchayat elections. According to a report by The New Indian Express, Gowthamma filed her nomination from Doddalathur gram panchayat in Kollegal taluk of the district. Gowthamma said she wants to fulfill the dreams of her late husband, who was the village head and politician. After the death of her husband almost three decades ago, the status of basic amenities in the village had declined and that she wants to work towards improving those conditions. “If I win the elections, I will fulfill my husband’s desire and make the gram panchayat a model. I want people here to remember me even after my death,” Gowthamma told the newspaper.
