Andhra Pradesh Congress filed a case with the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) over the Power Supply Agreement signed in 2021 by the then Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP government and Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). An indictment by the Securities Exchange Commission in the United States has accused Gautam Adani of offering a bribe of Rs 1750 crores to Jagan, which led him to agree to pricier solar power rates.
AP Congress Chief and Jagan’s sister YS Sharmila alleged that AP CM Chandrababu Naidu was controlling the ACB over the issue and hence no investigation was being carried out over the alleged scandal. “Is ACB in Chandrababu Naidu’s control? Does ACB have authority to investigate this deal or corruption behind it or is it being controlled by Chandrababu Naidu?” she asked adding that the ACB should prove itself for being against corruption. “It can also take suo moto cognizance and carry out enquiry,” she said.
Sharmila questioned Chandrababu Naidu and TDP for not investigating the allegation and said, “No investigation is taking place only because of political favours and sides the NDA alliance is taking”. She also highlighted the 2021 petition filed by AP finance minister Payyavula Keshav in Andhra Pradesh High Court flagging the corruption involved in this deal.
“TDP knew about the scandal since 2021. According to the investigation they have carried out, a 1300 pages petition was filed in 2021. Why are they not taking any action about this scandal? Chandrababu Naidu is the Chief Minister now. Payyavula Keshav is also a Minister. Why are they not taking action?” she asked.
Sharmila also said that while talking about the issue, Chandrababu Naidu had accused Jagan Mohan Reddy of taking bribes for signing the deal but doesn’t mention a word about Adani’s involvement. She alleges that TDP fears or is hesitant to talk about Adani because he is a person in favour of BJP and acknowledged the alliance between BJP and TDP.
The AP Congress Chief also asserted that Rahul Gandhi has been criticising Adani on multiple counts while the BJP led Union government sides with him. “The Modi government is saving Adani because he funds BJP. This is the reason behind not setting up a Joint Parliamentary Committee to look into this scandal”.
Sharmila has accused the friendly ties of BJP and Adani as a reason for the scandal not being investigated.
