A first-level warning continues in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district, even as the inflow of water into the Prakasam barrage on the Krishna River in Vijayawada is slowly reducing.

According to the State Disaster Management Authority, on Saturday, the barrage witnessed an inflow of around 6 lakh cusecs against the outflow of 4.8 lakh cusecs of water.

The Krishna and Thungabhadra rivers in the state are witnessing heavy flooding as upstream areas including parts of Karnataka are receiving incessant rains. On Friday, officials issued a second level warning, as Prakasam barrage witnessed an inflow 6,06,704 cusecs, against the same outflow.

According to Shanthi Swaroop, Executive Director of SDMA the second level warning was withdrawn on Saturday as the situation became steady and normal.

Speaking to TNM, the Executive Director said, "The second level warning has been withdrawn as the inflow from the upstream dams has reduced. Concerned officials of Krishna district are in touch with us, and all the measures will be taken as required."

He further added, "Few mandals and certain low lying areas are affected." The first level warning is expected to be withdrawn soon.

Meanwhile, district authorities shifted several people to flood relief camps in view of the situation. According to Yella Rao, Superintendent of Disaster Management section, as many as 567 families were affected as of Saturday.

At least 1,832 persons were shifted to six relief camps that authorities have set up in the affected mandals. In Mopidevi, Ibrahimpatnam, Penamaluru  Vijayawada East , Vijayawada Central and Pagidimukkala areas, several colonies were inundated due to the flood water.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning was very likely to occur at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
