Fight over a mobile phone’s memory card claimed the life of a man in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayanagaram district on Sunday, police said.

According to the police, enraged over alleged theft of memory card of his mobile phone, a man stabbed another villager to death in Sanganguddivalasa village in Mentada block.

The memory card was allegedly stolen during the birthday celebration of K Balaraju on Saturday night. His father K Chinnaiah suspected involvement of Lakshman Rao in theft and thrashed him the next day.

Rao's brother-in-law Puttaiah intervened to save him and entered into an argument with Chinnaiah. The latter attacked Puttaiah with a knife, resulting in his death on the spot.

Police registered a case and arrested Chinnaiah.

The state has seen several such deaths this year, after fights breaking out over trivial issues.

Earlier this month, the Visakhapatnam city police arrested three juveniles in connection with the death of a 15-year-old student, studying in class 10.

The trio had allegedly thrashed their senior, following which he suffered severe head injuries and died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.

In May this year, a 17-year-old boy was beaten to death over a cricket match in West Godavari district’s Tanuku town.

The victim was playing cricket at a local community hall ground, when another youngster asked if he could join the game.

Angered by the refusal, the accused thrashed the victim with a cricket bat, which led to his death.

In April, 23-year-old Kiran Kumar, an engineering student, was stabbed to death in Vijayawada over a dispute arising from a game of cricket.
