Two years after their suspension in the infamous Kadambari Jethwani case, the Andhra Pradesh government on Sunday, September 20, transferred and assigned new postings for former Vijayawada Commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata and Deputy Commissioner Vishal Gunni.
The government issued orders posting Kanthi Rana as the Traffic Management and Road Safety’s Inspector General of Police. Vishal Gunni was posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Training, in the existing vacancy, and given full additional charge as Director of the Andhra Pradesh Police Academy (APPA) until further orders.
The postings come two weeks after the Andhra government, on September 4, revoked their suspension. While revoking their suspension, the state government said that the decision was based on reports from the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Head of Police Force (HoPF).
The two cops were accused of illegally confining and harassing Mumbai based actress Kadambari Jethwani and her family. Former DGP (Intelligence) Sitharama Anjaneyalu was accused of booking flights for Kanthi Rana and Vishal to Mumbai for the arrest of the actor without proper written instructions or due investigation.
Kanthi Rana and Vishal Gunni were charged with acting solely on oral instructions and arresting the actress without due diligence. The officers were also accused of carrying out an arrest even before the registration of the First Information Report (FIR) which raises concerns of procedural lapses.
Jethwani had complained to NTR Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu in August 2024 accusing YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and movie producer KVR Vidyasagar of colluding with the officers and filing a case of extortion and forgery against her. Jethwani said that along with her, her parents were picked up from Mumbai to Vijayawada without any prior notice and further alleged that they were placed in judicial custody for over a month.
