In a move that could spell trouble for Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, the Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday issued orders to the Krishna Lanka police to book a case against the Vijayawada Central MLA and his wife, along with seven others, in a case related to land grabbing in the city.
Local corporator Ganduri Mahesh was also among one of the accused named in the case. The court was hearing a petition filed by one Koteswar Rao on whose name the land earlier registered. Rao alleged that the land didn't belong to him and accused Mahesh and others of misusing his signature to create fake documents.
“He used the same documents to sell land belonging to me on paper, without my knowledge,” Koteswar Rao was quoted as saying.
The petitioner also alleged that Bonda Uma and his wife were kept in the loop about this, as Mahesh used their name to allegedly threaten Rao. He also claimed that higher officials and the city police did not act on his earlier complaints.
As the case came to light, CPM leader Ch Babu Rao held a press meet in Vijayawada and demanded that TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu must suspend Bonda Uma from the party for corruption. The Left leader also demanded that the legislator must resign from his seat and take moral responsibility.
This is not the first time that the MLA is in the news as he repeatedly gets media coverage for his controversial statements against other politicians.
In March last year, a video also surfaced that showed the TDP MLA roughing up one of the security personnel of then Andhra Pradesh State Transport Commissioner N Bala Subramanyam.
After Naidu took note of the incident and spoke to the legislator, he later apologized to the official concerned.
