A 37-year-old man, V. Chandra Kishore, died by suicide after allegedly killing his two sons, aged six and seven, in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district on Friday, March 14. Police said they found a suicide note in which Chandra Kishore, an accountant at Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), expressed concern about his children’s academic future.

“He left a suicide note saying his children weren’t studying well and that he was worried they would not be able to cope in such a competitive world. He said he couldn’t bear to see them struggle in the future,” a police officer investigating the case told the media.

According to the police, Chandra Kishore had been married to Tanuja since 2017, and they had two sons, Joshith and Nikith, who were in kindergarten and Class 1. On March 14, the family attended Holi celebrations at the ONGC office. He left midway, saying he needed to get the children’s uniform measurements fixed. When he did not return soon, his wife went home to check on him along with his colleagues, the police said.

“Both children were found with their hands and legs tied, blindfolded, and drowned in a bucket in the washroom. Chandra Kishore had died by suicide,” the police officer said.

Chandra Kishore’s brother-in-law, Uma Shankar, told the media that the couple had recently moved their children from an expensive school, which cost about Rs 1 lakh per year, to a school with an annual fee of around Rs 50,000. “He felt like he had downgraded their school, that he was unable to educate his kids properly, and that he wouldn’t be able to help them grow in the future. He seems to have had that fear, but he didn’t share it with anyone,” he said, expressing disbelief that Chandra Kishore had killed the children for this reason.
