Five minor students assaulted another minor student brutally in a government junior college’s Backward Classes (BC) welfare hostel in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district. A video of the assault, which reportedly occurred on August 7, is being circulated on social media.

The victim’s parents told the media that their son was assaulted for four days. “They threatened to kill him if he informed anyone about the assault, so he remained silent. With the video coming to light, we have complained to the police,” the parents said.

In the video, a group of students is seen brutally beating and kicking the victim. One of them was seen holding electrical wires, threatening to electrocute the victim. As the victim pleaded with them to stop beating him, the attackers were heard yelling at him to remove his shirt.

According to reporters, apart from the five minors, an outsider was also involved in the attack.

Palnadu Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Jagadish told the media that the minors involved in the incident had a dispute over a relationship. He said that both the victim and the accused were being questioned by the police. “We have received a complaint from the parents. An FIR will be registered and action will be taken as per the law,” he said.

Since the students involved in the incident were all minors, the DySP requested the media to take down videos revealing their faces.

Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Nara Lokesh responded to the incident and said that a comprehensive investigation was underway.
