The image consists of two parts. On the left is a close-up, low-resolution photograph of murder victim Bharathi, a young woman with dark hair tied back, wearing earrings and a necklace. She has a serious expression on her face.

On the right, two uniformed police officers are walking on a dry, rocky field with scattered stones and bushes under a clear sky. They appear to be investigating the area.

A man in Andhra Pradesh allegedly murdered his 20-year-old daughter Bharathi by hanging her from a tree, and later burning her body beyond recognition, over her relationship with a man. However, the woman’s partially burnt Aadhaar card helped the police identify her as T Bharathi, the daughter of T Ramanjaneyulu, who they later found out was her alleged killer.

While Bharathi’s father killed her on March 1, police found her charred body only four days later, near the Thikkaswamy dargah close to Kasapuram village, Guntakal mandal, Anantapur district.

Guntakal Rural Circle Inspector N Praveen Kumar told the media that on the morning of March 5, they received a call from a revenue official of Kasapuram village informing them about an unidentified woman’s body found in an isolated area. The police found that the body was completely burnt, with her face being unrecognisable.

On examining the crime scene, the police found Bharathi’s partially burnt Aadhaar card which still had her name and her father’s name.

According to Kasapuram Sub-Inspector of Police Venkatswamy, Bharathi had been in a relationship with a man named Yashwanth for five years. While she was pursuing her second year of undergraduate degree in Kurnool, her boyfriend was studying in a college in Hyderabad.

Bharathi belonged to the Balija community while Yashwanth is from the Golla community, both Backward Classes, the SI said.

Ramanjaneyulu, who runs a tiffin centre in Guntakal, was opposed to his daughter’s relationship, police said. They said that Bharathi was the youngest of four sisters. While all three elder sisters were married, Ramajaneyulu wanted Bharathi to be educated well, the police said.

A murder case has been registered against Ramanjaneyulu, who will be arrested on March 6, Kasapuram SI said.
