A division bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday, October 19, set aside an earlier order directing the State Election Commission (SEC) to issue clear orders to its officials to consider voters’ lists updated up to July 15, 2026.

A division bench of Justices Mandava Kiranmayi and Alapathi Giridhar passed its order against the backdrop of local body polls in the state. Hearing the SEC’s appeal against the single bench order, the two judges ruled that the SEC could decide on the final electoral roll based on its own circulars.

On October 16, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) had approached the High Court. YSRCP had alleged that the SEC had failed to consider its representation seeking publication of the final voters’ lists for local body elections. The representation sought publication after resolving claims and objections received up to August 31, 2026, regarding additions, deletions and corrections to the draft electoral rolls under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The party had sought directions to ensure the final electoral rolls reflected all approved changes before the elections were conducted. The single judge had directed the SEC to issue instructions to the concerned authorities to consider the voters’ lists updated up to July 15, 2026.
