Employee of Bangalore firm gets fired over "derogatory" comment on Kannadigas

The News Minute | May 23, 2014 | 7.21 pm ISTWell, shooting your mouth off can probably get you fired if you’re not sent to jail, as a man working in Bangalore found out to his unpleasant surprise.Mukesh Kumar Choudhary, a technical author with French company Cades Studec Technologies India Private Limited, had posted “derogatory” comments about Kannadigas peppered with obscene language.Shrikanth Mane, a mechanical engineer who also works in Bangalore took offence when he saw the comment on Facebook and wrote to the company through its Facebook page, asking it to “pull him up”. The company responded on Facebook: “We are really sorry & apologise on behalf of our employee’s indecent behaviour on the social media, the issue will be take to higher authority for necessary action tomorrow itself, Sorry again”.In letter issued soon after, the company terminated Mukesh’s services because he had “disgraced the harmony atmosphere of the company” and that it had made the decision to relieve him “Understanding the sentiments and value of the particular community” in Bangalore.Mane told The News Minute that a particular word that he had used was what had “hurt” him. “When you are living and working in Karnataka, you should respect the people here,” he said.
