India’s top businessman, Gautam Adani’s quiet visit to Chennai in July 2024 has come back to haunt the DMK government. The opposition is now raising questions about Adani’s visit, including whom he met during his time in the city. Now, with Adani being indicted in the U.S. over bribery charges, the DMK is once again facing scrutiny over its stance on Adani. However, the DMK government has yet to provide a clear explanation and continues to evade questions on the matter. The party’s reluctance to openly criticize Adani has also been evident during the winter session of Parliament. While the Congress has stalled proceedings for five days, demanding a JPC probe into the Adani issue and a discussion, the DMK’s response has been tepid. Though the DMK has joined the protests on the floor of the House, it has hesitated to move an adjournment motion or participate in demonstrations outside Parliament.
