Ajith Kumar Custodial Death: கதை எழுதும் காவல்துறை; கண்டுகொள்ளாத முதலமைச்சர்! | Shabbir Ahmed

Tamil Nadu has recorded 24 custodial deaths, 21 extra judicial killings and numerous cases of police brutality in the past four years including cases of breaking limbs that have often gone unreported. The recent brutal murder of a temple guard Ajith Kumar in police custody in Sivaganga district has raised serious concerns and questions about the functioning of the police force in Tamil Nadu. The post-mortem report of him states that Ajith’s body had at least 44 external injuries on the legs, arms, abdomen, and chest, along with signs of severe internal bleeding. For at least 19 of these wounds, the post-mortem observed that the ‘depth extends upto muscle’, which means that the contusion or bruise was not limited to the skin, but penetrated deep into the underlying muscle. But why does every custodial death story follow the same script? Why do police narratives always include claims of seizures or sudden illnesses? Is custodial violence becoming a normalized police culture in Tamil Nadu? In this episode of Yen Endra Kelvi, Shabbir Ahmed examines the pattern of systemic failure in ensuring justice, and asks how do we hold the police accountable.
