The case against Gem Granites founder R Veeramani has raised serious questions about how allegations of sexual abuse of minors were handled by the Chennai Police. A complaint alleging sexual abuse against minor by Veeramani and his associate Shanthi was submitted in November 2024 by a Congress functionary MP Ranjan Kumar.
However, the case was formally registered only in October 2025, after a pen drive containing a video showing a minor being sexually assaulted was handed over to the Anti-Vice Squad. In February 2026, the police filed a report seeking to drop further action, citing difficulties including identifying the girl in the video.
