A water-filled pothole turned Bengaluru resident Aishani Khanna’s routine commute into a serious accident. Her scooter fell, crushing her ankle and leaving her with deep cuts, severe skin damage and significant blood loss. She also underwent plastic surgery and paid nearly ₹2 lakh for treatment.
Aishani’s accident is not an isolated case. Data tabled in Parliament shows Bengaluru recorded 93 pothole-related accidents and 24 deaths in 2024. NCRB data has also recorded the city as having the highest number of deaths due to civic negligence for six consecutive years.
