The News Minute | November 12, 2014 | 8:55 am ISTA memorial built for the soldiers of World War I has become a garbage tossing site in Hyderabad.Many soldiers fought for Britain in The Great War that lasted between 1914 and 1918 but the government has abandoned the 30 feet pylon altogether.According to a report in the Times of India, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has made no effort to even replace the sign board in tune with changes, forget regular maintenance at the pylon or its surroundings.A sign at the memorial reads “This monument was erected in memory of the sacrifices made by our sailors and soldiers who laid down their lives during the World War-I in 1914-19,“ Every year the GHMC repaints statues of historical personalities and politicians. During their birth and death anniversaries, the statues are garlanded and various functions are held. Up to 40 lakh is spent for this reason.The 15th Imperial Service Cavalry Brigade, which took part in the war, was involved in defending the Suez Canal in Egypt and was also victorious over the Turkish army in Palestine. It consisted of lancers from Hyderabad, Mysore and Jodhpur.
