Written by : TNM Staff

A leaked video in Telangana has triggered off a major controversy as it has raised questioned about happenings at the Karimnagar district jail.

The video in question, shows tainted ASI B Mohan Reddy, who arrested and lodged in the jail for a massive disproportionate assets case, having a free conversation in a large room, with a few other persons.

According to reports, the ASI was meeting with his family members including his wife Laxmi, brother Sripal Reddy and another person Mahender Reddy, in the Jail Superintendent's chambers.

As the video surfaced, the ASI's victims as well as other groups have been protesting against the facilities provided to the former policeman.

Alleging that jail authorities were working with him they demanded a probe and strict action against the accused.

The Hindu quoted Lok Satta district president N Srinivas alleging that the incident of jail authorities organising a ‘mulakath’ in the official's chambers had brought disrepute to the Prisons Department.

“Now, in spite of being in jail, he is doing all settlements from jail and is threatening victims through his family members,” the report quotes Victims of Tainted ASI Association president Musuku Mahender Reddy as saying.

Allegations denied

However, district authorities remain adamant that no rules were flouted, to give special treatment to Mohan Reddy.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Superintendent of District Central Prison N Shiva Kumar Goud said that all the guidelines were followed and Mohan Reddy was given permission for special 'mulkath' on November 13.

He said that they met in the Superintendent's chamber, as there was no separate room available for special mulakath.

Alleging that employees within the prison who had a grudge on the Superintendent had recorded the video and leaked it to the media, he denied any wrong doing.

He also said that the CCTV cameras were functional, and could be checked, to prove that no rules had been broken.

Mohan Reddy was arrested in April this year by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, which found that the tainted cop had made bank transactions worth Rs 6,44,24,321 credit and Rs 6,35,45,595 debit from September 6, 2006 to December 31, 2016.

Properties worth several crore, and two luxury cars, were also discovered in the raids.
